Other systems often allow this, but through FTP. It&#8217;s the same concept, but SFTP adds a layer of encryption for security purposes. In this article, we&#8217;ll explain how to connect to your sites file system through SFTP.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 1: Add an SFTP key pair<\/h2>\n<p>The first step in connecting over SFTP is to set up your SFTP key pair in the Website Pro dashboard. You will then be able to download your private key that is associated with the key that was just added.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 2: Connect to your file system using SFTP<\/h2>\n<p>Once your new key pair has been generated and you&#8217;ve downloaded your private key, you will be able to connect directly to your file system. To do so, you will need an SFTP client, such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/filezilla-project.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">FileZilla<\/a>. It is free and available for Mac or PC.<\/p>\n<p>How to use FileZilla:<\/p>\n<ol id=\"instruction-list\">\n<li>Open FileZilla &gt; File &gt; Site Manager &gt; New Site<\/li>\n<li>Enter host as:\u00a0<strong>sftp.websitepro.hosting<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Enter port as:\u00a0<strong>22<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Set protocol field to: SFTP &#8211; SSH File Transfer Protocol<\/li>\n<li>Set logon type to: Key file<\/li>\n<li>Enter your user:\u00a0<strong>xxxxx<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Choose your key file<\/li>\n<li>Click connect<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Your SFTP client setup should look like the screenshot below:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-210 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/help.marketingservices.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SFTP2-1024x621.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"621\" srcset=\"https:\/\/help.marketingservices.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SFTP2-1024x621.png 1024w, https:\/\/help.marketingservices.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SFTP2-300x182.png 300w, https:\/\/help.marketingservices.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SFTP2-768x466.png 768w, https:\/\/help.marketingservices.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SFTP2-1080x655.png 1080w, https:\/\/help.marketingservices.dev\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/SFTP2.png 1195w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once connected, you will have the ability to modify the file system directly.
